Juneteenth is a holiday that should be both fun and educational, especially for today’s youth. For “Coloring Juneteenth: Collaborative Storytime,” we have written an original, historically accurate, and future-minded children’s story book about Juneteenth with outlines of illustrations create by local BIPOC youth artists. There will be three versions of these books that kids will be able to color collaboratively while learning about the history of Juneteenth. These events will take place starting at 10am on the front lawn of Jefferson Elementary School and snacks and coloring materials will be provided for a fun, kid-friendly experience. Afterwards, each unique book will be donated to one of the three libraries in our communities: Maplewood, South Orange, and the Hilton Branch. This way, the kid’s work will be preserved on display, and they will be able to visit it during a trip to their local library. The books we create will be able to be shared for years to come! We hope you come out!
Sponsored by MAPSO Youth Coallition, The Miller Foundation Oyster Fest and Maplewood Department of Community Services.
