South Orange Village and Maplewood Township, together with SOMA Cross Cultural Works and the AAPI Community, unite to recognize and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2021 with family-oriented events during the entire month of May.

Maplewood Township and South Orange Village Celebrate Female Essential Workers with a “SHEroes” window exhibit at the 1978 Arts Center on Springfield Avenue, as well as a “Meet The SHEroes of the Maplewood Police Force” Video.
SOMA Celebrates Women’s History Month
Elected officials in Maplewood and South Orange, in partnership with township departments, divisions, and organizations, join with local business districts to celebrate the achievements of women. The focus for 2021 is ‘Women Lifting Women’ which will be realized through more than 45 unique events including safe, socially distant and/or virtual concerts, performances, author events, exhibits, classes, fundraisers, drives, projects, and initiatives.

July 21, 2020 The Township of Maplewood together with the Community Service Department are pleased to announce Puerto Rico Native, and Maplewood Resident ANA DE ARCHULETA Director of the Division of Arts & Culture effective July 6, 2020. De Archuleta joins an exceptional team of female directors in Maplewood Township.
