Village Sunset Music Series - ZööS

  • Maplewood Village Downtown Highland Place and Mapewood Avenue Maplewood, NJ (map)

The Village Sunset Music Series has been conceived to be the background sounds to your outdoor dining experience, in our #pedestrianfriendly Maplewood downtown. The Friday and Saturday music series will feature the talent of locally-grown musicians. Maplewood Division of Arts & Culture in collaboration with Maplewood Village Alliance, are injecting much needed energy and rhtythm to the streets of our artsy town.

Come eat and stroll, while enjoying the masks on-socially distanced performance this week.

ZööS - ZööS (pronounced "Zeus") is a power trio that's been thrilling audiences with energetic (and faithful) renditions of hits from the chart topping bands of the 1960's and 70's. Specializing in songs by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Police, Jimi Hendrix, The Doobie Brothers, Santana, and Many More!!!

When you see the lightning, and you hear the thunder, it must be ZööS!

  • Peter McClard has been playing guitar and writing music since he was 8 years old. He is married to Valeriya Tuz who is a piano and voice teacher. One day she said to one of her student's dads after hearing he played drums, "Oh, you should get together with my husband."

  • BJ Hemann has been playing drums and singing his whole life. BJ has a great voice that can hit those special high notes and harmonize beautifully. He has an uncanny ability to drum complex rhythms while singing an entirely different thing which is great for Peter who can relax and play guitar most of the time.

  • Cris Pegaso grew up in a musical family in Peru but only dabbled until he moved to the US. Cris was not a bass player when Peter met him as a handyman and jack of all trades. But since that moment Cris literally sleeps with his bass and lives to nail some of the hardest bass lines around. Cris is an amazing fellow with an fascinating tale to tell!We take our music seriously and we love nothing more than to share a deep musical experience with our audience.

We all love so many types of music that it would be impossible for us to specialize in one type or one band. We love the music of the 60's and 70's the most because of the burst of creativity and variety that is available. Bands such as the Beatles, The Who, Sugarloaf, Santana, Pink Floyd, Yes, Jimi Hendrix and more make us happy. We feel it is our duty to keep these great songs alive and bring our own twist to them such as when we diive into Within You Without You in the middle of Norweigian Wood. Because this music also influences our writing, we can evoke the same vibe in our originals which also brings in some classic 80's experience. We are known to dip into classical and jazz influences such as Bach and Miles Davis to broaden to palette of our musical offerings and inspire and challenge listeners.

We guarantee, you won't be bored at a ZööS event!

** Safety measures are in place and Social Distancing Ambassadors will remind you to stay 6 feet apart and wear your masks. We will be following the governor’s outdoor gathering guidelines**
