Every day, nine-year-old Yasmin borrows a book from Book Uncle, a retired teacher who has set up a free lending library next to her apartment building. But when the mayor tries to shut down the bookstand, Yasmin has to take her nose out of her book and do something. But what can she do?

Helen Wan is a diversity and inclusion consultant and media lawyer. She writes about how race, gender, sex, class, culture, family, and privilege impact personal and professional decisions.She will be in conversation with Anne Fernald, professor of English and Women's Studies at Fordham. Fernald is a Woolf scholar and the author of Virginia Woolf: Feminism and The Reader, as well as an editor and the creator of the Fernham blog.

Using #RepresentationMatters - the idea is for both authors to discuss their work, the importance of inclusion as authors and for characters as well as the influence in creating their stories to appeal to readers particularly of upper elementary (middle grade) and middle and high school students. Both have offered to do book signings of existing copies of books in the library collection and books that attendees might bring.
