
Village Sunset Music Series - LAREDO
LAREDO are Larry Hardie and Ed Melee on guitars and vocals, and Gary Shippy on drums and vocals. They play a wide ranging variety of rock and roll, folk, blues and country songs. Their live performances always get the audience dancing, and usually singing along. The band often invites musician friends from the Maplewood/South Orange community to play along with them at their shows. The many years of playing together has wrought a tight, professional stage presence that entices and delights audiences young and old alike.

Lee, also known as ‘The Trumpet Man,’ performs Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Reggae and other genres of music, is a resident of Maplewood, NJ .Bruno has performed with musicians such as Trumpeters King James Gibbs III and Dave Gordon, singers Dwight West; Angel ‘Lite’ Garrett; Darryl Coley; Tramaine Hawkins; Donald Malloy; and bands such as Bet HaShem, Craig Mitchell Band, FELT, Stuff Bros., Pidgin Droppings to name a few.

RECKON SO is a long-time Maplewood resident group, Danny Weiss and Mary Olive. They have been on NYC’s music scene since their official debut in 2005, but have been making music together for years. Danny & MO’s natural connection on stage, great tunes, hot picking, dynamic vocals, sweet duets and a mix of Honky Tonk, Roots Country, Western Swing and Bluegrass always make for an infectious good time.

Ben Williams, whose trombone playing has been hailed by the Audiophile Review as being “soulful and thoughtful, with a rich, expressive sound “. has extensive performing experience as a freelance artist in the New York City area. A co- recipient of a Jazz Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, Ben has led and co-led numerous groups under his own name performing in many venues in the NYC area and across the country.

Versatile guitarist Ivan Max has been playing, performing and teaching for over 30 years. He combines Flamenco, Classical, and Jazz music for a unique guitar sound. He regularly performs with Toni Messina and Viva Flamenca. Since 2014, Ivan has been the resident Flamenco and Classical guitarist for Alborada Spanish Dance Theater.

Viva Flamenco is a New Jersey based flamenco-arts organization directed by Toni Messina who's been a teacher, dancer and singer for over twenty years. Her group has performed in venues as wide ranging as theaters, outdoor festivals, children's shows, restaurants and academic settings, to name a few.

Peter & the Master Keys’ music is the perfect blend of cool sophistication and rootsy soul. Specializing in American jazz and blues from the 30’s through 60’s (with a dash of rock n’ roll thrown into the mix), they pay homage to an earlier era of live music when real musicians played real instruments with finesse and feeling to connect to the audience.

While college brought the band their separate ways, COVID-19 has reunited them for the summer to bring feel-good music to socially-distanced crowds.
