Rhythm & Words is a creative-writing workshop and performance FUSION event. Each session is anchored in a theme that is reflected in the writing tasks that take place during the event. Each session includes audience participation, discussion, and a Guest Artist performance..

The Accelerators are a three piece power pop garage rock punk band from Union N.J. Comprising of Ron Nole on bass and lead vocals. Anthony Rodriguez on lead guitar and backing vocals. And Lenny Sblendorio on drums. The band has been together since the 1980's and has performed at some legendary clubs such as CBGB's, The Stone Pony, The Stanhope House, The Court Tavern and The Dirt Club.

Featuring soloist Rafael Galvan-Herrera, and a brilliant composition by student-composer Kailyn Williams. Please join us for our first in-person concert of the 2020-21 Season!

Our focus on May 23 will be coming-of-age moments in various cultures – something that all can share. Diverse and provocative panelists will launch our discussion, which will then continue in small breakout groups. We’ll wrap up the program with music in a little over an hour. (In the future, we look forward to returning to sharing food, arts and dance, as well.)

The Day of the Dead Community Celebration will be held November 1st, 2020 in the Woodland West Side Patio. There you will have the opportunity to enjoy activities, listen to traditional music, including the Mariachi Academy of New York. To fully participate in this joyous occasion, bring pictures of loved ones, marigolds, and pan de muerto, a traditional Mexican sweet bread, to add to the altars. This event is free with registration; families can register for ONE of the following hour slots: 1pm-2pm, 2:30pm-3:30pm and 4pm-5pm.

Join the Coalition Youth Collective and the South Orange/Maplewood Community to re-affirm that Black Lives DO Matter in SOMA as we listen to the voices, applaud the talents and support the aspirations of SOMA and Essex County youth during this virtual AND interactive celebration.

For 17 years, the Newstead 5K race has kicked off the new school year in South Orange-Maplewood, attracting hundreds of enthusiastic runners and walkers for a morning of healthy activity, connection and fundraising. Due to Covid and social distancing requirements, we won’t be able to gather and run together this September, but we can walk or run the INstead 5K!
